Black Voters Matter is again putting the Blackest buses in America back on the road for a tour throughout the South as part of their 2024 “We Fight Back” campaign and bus tour. Black Voters Matter created the bus tour in 2018 to engage with Black voters, policymakers, faith-based leaders, Black influencers, and HBCU students in advance of critical elections.

In 2018, WDN members came together to raise $90,000 that, along with support from other partners, helped the organization purchase the bus — a goal that was funded in less than 72 hours.

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for your recent support of our work and the tour,” Brown said of WDN’s investment in 2018. “It’s hard work but we feel momentum.”

After the bus was purchased, the group kicked off its The South is Rising Tour, with stops in Georgia, Mississippi, and Florida. Since then, the bus has been on the road for every midterm and presidential cycle.

“Our objective is to connect with some of our grassroots partners leading work in the rural South, build interest and excitement for the upcoming election, bring and expose national media to the great work being led by grassroots leaders (mostly Black women) and campaign in some places that have very important upcoming races where Black turnout will be key,” Brown said.
